“The Big Ginger” Drink

Ginger Ale, Whisky and Lime Drink

This drink is popular at Target Field, where the Minnesota Twins play. It is a perfect summer drink. It wasn’t until I realized how the flavors of ginger and lime would pair well with Vietnamese and Thai cuisine that a whole new world opened up. This would go well with Banh Mi or Vietnamese Noodle Bowl with Lemongrass Chicken. I like to use Two Gingers Whisky, but you can use any Irish Whisky you would like. I also like to use a fancier ginger ale/beer when available, but good old Canada Dry tastes great too. I used Fever Tree, but Trader Joe’s makes a really wonderful ginger beer around the holidays, so I use that when I can. I garnished with caramelized ginger and lime wedges, but those are really more for fun and optional.

Prep time



Whisky, Ginger Ale, and Lime


  • 4 oz Irish Whisky, I prefer Two Gingers

  • 12 oz Ginger Ale or Ginger Beer

  • 1 Lime

  • Ice

  • Caramelized Ginger, for garnish


  • Fill lowball or highball glasses with ice.
  • Pour in 2 oz of whisky into each glass.
  • Pour 6 oz of Ginger ale or ginger beer into each glass.
  • Squeeze a quarter of a lime into glass.
  • Garnish with lime wedge and caramelized ginger.
  • Serve immediately.
